News of Sigourney Weaver joining the cast of Marvel’s The Defenders broke at NYCC, but word on her role has been very quiet up until this point. Courtesy of an exclusive feature over at Entertainment Weekly, this dark period is over.
Sigourney Weaver will play Alexandra, a new character created just for the crossover series. This is a rare moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where an original character will play a huge part in the project. She’s bound to be in charge of a villainous organisation such as The Hand, possibly she’ll be able to control the Black Sky; better known as Elektra.
Here’s what showrunner Marco Ramirez has to say about Weaver’s involvement:
“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous. I’m sorry. I can only say a bunch of adjectives right now.”
