The long-winded planning of David Goyer’s Superman prequel, Krypton, is starting to pay off as SyFy are finally closing the deal for a pilot order. The cable channel has been developing the show for over a year and a half, so it’s about time it’s starting to come into fruition.

Damian Kindler has joined the team as Executive Producer and Showrunner, while Colm McCarthy is set to direct the pilot. Goyer and Kindler are currently rewriting the original pilot which was based on a story that Goyer penned.

The show is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary planet and the birth place of Kal-El. It will follow Superman’s grandfather as he fights to redeem his family’s honor after his House of El was ostracized and shamed.

It’s hard to say how close to Superman’s story the show will go, with Supergirl already borrowing and developing his story but not being able to actually show the popular character. It’d be interesting if Krypton and Supergirl could somehow become canon, forming a deeper look at the legendary planet and it’s culture.
