We’ve been apprehensively watching the marketing and promotion unveil for the upcoming Power Rangers movie from Lionsgate, and now the big moment is here. The very first teaser trailer, thanks to New York Comic-Con, has arrived. Watch it below and tell us what you think!

Well, we don’t know about you but we’re shocked. This take on the widely-popular franchise seems to be more character driven and serious than any other version we’ve seen. We’ll avoid describing it as “grounded”, especially since it looks like they gain powers and their suits by some sort of alien technology. Either way, we’re actually looking forward to seeing the movie now – it could have gone really well or really bad, and it looks like it’s leaning towards the former.

Here’s the official synopsis for the 2017 movie:

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Saban’s Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott/the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/the Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini Kwan/the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart/the Pink Ranger, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader as Alpha 5, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

Power Rangers is being directed by Dean Israelite, based on the script penned by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. It’s set to arrive in UK Cinemas on March 24th, 2017.

“More serious than any other version we’ve seen” ?

I guess you never saw any of the sequels.

Power Rangers is not only MMPR.

    • I’ve watched MMPR, of course, and the only other versions I’ve seen happen to be some of the TV shows, and from memory they were ridiculous. So as far as I’m aware personally, it’s more serious than other versions I’ve seen. Didn’t claim it was the most serious take on the characters ever though, cheers for commenting!

MANY of the season were corny/silly just like MMPR… Not all, but many…

In your opinions which ones? My favourites were In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed, Time Force, Wild Force, Dino Thunder and RPM. Some of them may have been corny sure but NOT like MMPR.

I’m just annoyed that people ONLY seem to care about the original series when I honestly think that the sequels were MUCH better.

I agree that some of the later seasons were better, Dino Thunder I think is my favorite. But you cherry picked the ones that were the least of the “silly” seasons… There are like 23 seasons, more than MMPR took the goofy route…
