The Flash #22 brings us the final part of ‘The Button’ storyline…

The death of the Reverse-Flash comes full circle in this issue as we witness the events of his destruction. And there’s no doubt in our minds that it’s Doctor Manhattan that’s killed him. It’s an interesting relationship that Thawne has with the rest of the characters in The Flash #22. He becomes pig-headed and stubborn (more than usual) to Barry and Batman. But when he seemingly comes face to face with who he describes as ‘God’, his attitude does a complete 180 degree turn. It’s something we don’t usually see from the villainous speedster, an aspect that makes this issue all the more fresh.

One of the most resounding elements across the entire story, not just The Flash #22, has been the partnership between Bruce and Barry. They just make a perfect duo of science and superheroics. So as their investigation leads them to the stranger portions of time, space and the speedforce – their friendship only grows closer. Especially considering they both understand the awful tease of having their loved ones returned to them. The development of the two heroes has been phenomenal – and Joshua Williamson should definitely boast about that.

We loved the return of a certain Golden Age speedster, even if it was all too brief. But Jay Garrick has never looked better. Is that because he looks an awful lot like John Wesley Shipp A.K.A. Garrick on The Flash tv series? Maybe so. But it’s hard not to be impressed by his return. And then finally, we have the tease at the end of the issue. The dangling of the ‘Doomsday Clock’ storyline that will arrive in November. It opens up a whole world of possibilities. The only frustrating part of this is that we still have a while to wait for these answers. In all honesty, ‘The Button’ has been one of the best stories to come out of DC this year.
