In the first issue of Valiant’s Bloodshot U.S.A., the title character came back to civilization and encountered an infection that’s turning people into violent killers. The twist? Even Ninjak became a victim – he decapitates Bloodshot and heads for the rest of his squad. What happens next? Let’s find out.

Bloodshot uses his abilities to extract nanites on Ninjak, saving himself and his squad from dying over and over. Seeing the squad team up with Ninjak is great, especially when they’re all crammed in a family vehicle in an attempt to get away from the mass infection. The pacing of this issue is insane in the best way possible, it’s rapid and upbeat even when there’s no fighting going on. We couldn’t get through the 20+ pages any quicker, honestly.

An intense scene is birthed from Deathmate’s orders to kill Bloodshot, Ninjak, and the rest of the gang. Bloodshot heroically tells the team to go on without him as he tries to appeal and revive his fallen love Kay, who’s been transformed into this killing machine. It seems as if he may have been successful, but we don’t know for sure. It’s going to kill us waiting for Issue #3, damn you Valiant!

The artwork differentiates between these all-silver characters with ease, opting to disregard the background to keep the focus solely on the characters. This works wonders as it’s a very character driven comic, and that’s why we’re so into it. We’re invested in Ninjak, Livewire, Bloodshot, Deathmate, and the other key players in this comic and that’s what makes it a must-read every month. Bring on #3!
