The CW are releasing Riverdale next year – a television series based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics. The two mediums are coming together thanks to a Riverdale tie-in series, announced today by Archie Comics themselves.

The comic will be written by the writers of the show, led by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and the characters will be drawn into existence by Alitha Martinez. The tie-in begins with a one-shot in early 2017, and will be followed by an ongoing series. We’re very happy here at Heroes Direct!

It’ll include the main Archie cast – including Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Kevin – but it’ll be set in the same universe as the show. This is a different world to that of the most recent comics. The show is said to focus on a darker and weirder side of Riverdale than we’re used to in the comics, and it’s being compared to Twin Peaks. Sounds good to us!
